What is Shardgate?
Shardgate is a browser-based, text-and-image MMORPG built to run on every device — no downloads, no launchers. It is grimdark sword & sorcery in the tradition of the games and tabletop worlds we grew up with, rebuilt around a database-driven world you can actually shape with other players in real time.
Our Inspiration
We love the dangerous, hand-built worlds of old-school RPGs — Dungeons & Dragons, RuneScape, World of Warcraft, and Divinity: Original Sin 2 — and the dread-soaked atmosphere of board games like Arkham Horror and Eldritch Horror. Shardgate is our love letter to all of them: a world where the lore is dense, the choices bite back, and reading is rewarded.
The Goal
Build a living, persistent realm where progression is earned and permanent, where a classless system lets you forge a truly personal hero, and where tactical preparation beats button-mashing. A dangerous world worth exploring — together.
Follow the Development
We document the build of Shardgate on YouTube — devlogs, design breakdowns, combat deep-dives and patch walkthroughs. Subscribe to watch the realm take shape.
How It Plays
Tactical Combat
Battles play out on zoned battlefields with action points, positioning, ranged vs. melee weapons, critical hits and enemy archetypes (chargers, archers, brutes). Preparation and positioning win fights — not spam.
Crafting & Gear
Every item lives in the database. Equip head-to-toe across a full WoW-style paperdoll, find loot from fallen foes, and build toward legendary artifacts that change how you play.
Co-op & Multiplayer
Share one persistent world. See other Wayfinders standing in your area in real time, chat locally, whisper privately, and meet up to take on what you can't beat alone.
A Living World
Explore a grid of zones and areas, each with its own theme, enemies and hazards. The world is the source of truth — what you see is real, persistent state, not set dressing.
Monetization Philosophy
Shardgate is free to play and we intend to keep the playing field level. No pay-to-win. No loot boxes. No selling power. The game is funded by optional supporters who get cosmetics, profile flair, and a say in the roadmap — never stat advantages. Progression is earned at the keyboard, by everyone, equally.

The Wiki & Guide breaks down every stat, status, zone and item — and includes an interactive simulator where you can try the systems yourself.
